Kiwis Are Krazy!
They better be prepared to buff out more than just their knees if they take a dive at that speed….
BONUS!
Wide lanes and straight lines are for girls! Let’s see those Kiwis bombing some Northern California back-roads!

Nucking FUTS!
I think everyone is crazy, it’s just a matter of degree and the specialization of their craziness. You’ll probably find this sort of activity in just about any country.
Brass Balls: Those guys have’em (especially the guy with bare feet)
we’re not crazy, just epic
like this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KE9qbYju-lY
How is it the guy with the camera on his head was so much faster than the others? This whole thing makes my bung pucker.
The other guys were drafting each other… the guy with the camera was drafting a TRUCK..!!!
He was drafting the big truck
It seems to me that he pushes more on the start; and then he picks up the aerodinamic trail of the truck.
The guy with the cam was faster because he was drafting. Drafting is when you use the vehicle in front of you to reduce your own aerodynamic drag, meaning you go faster. Its pretty common in racing, of course if you driving something the size of, a longboard per say, and your drafting behind a large multi-axle truck, then it makes a much bigger difference.
Maybe because he was drafting the truck in the first section. Probably makes a big difference.
OH OH OH!! let me answer..he was drafting a truck!!..ohh..wait..you mean 5 people have already said that?..dang
Future Darwin Award winner!
no…just. no…..
My thoughts exactly!!
Does anyone else get the feeling that the truck sped up to get away in case of the guys fell in front of him?
i think its partly that, and partly cuz they came to a flatter part, and slowed a bit
yes. That’s right.
I was braced for a crash the whole time… goddamn if only….
@ DrCreosote drafted teh truck
Ah, target practice!
The wonderful game of running over the brainless.
Passing highway traffic on a glorified skateboard: Doing it pretty well acktually.
Kiwi’s aren’t crazy, it’s just because when someone says “You can’t do that!” the New Zealander says “Oops, too late!”
Or rather [done it] “Can’t do what? Oh… this?”
The guy with the camera on his head becauce he built up alot of speed by being in the slip stream of the truck and then went down the hill part, btw the guy with the camera is canadian but i think the rest are kiwi. Theres also another video of the same guy doing down a very windy hill road/high way in wellington, that is nuts
*wyndy
Ride starts here http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Bombay+Road,+Auckland&sll=-41.244772,172.617188&sspn=52.248438,135.263672&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Bombay+Rd,+Auckland+2675&ll=-37.193801,174.986361&spn=0.003414,0.008256&z=18&layer=c&cbll=-37.192753,174.9845&panoid=RQdrOAzlP3GHf1f6KCHY9A&cbp=12,166.51,,0,5
Follow the motorway south, and take the exit to SH2 at the bottom of the hill.
I laughed out loud when I discovered that one of them (some of them?) didn’t wear any shoes.
It’s easier to grip the board with your toes than with the rubber soles of shoes.
If you’re gripping with toes, less chance of falling off at those speeds.
It’s ironic that they’d ride barefoot but would ‘bother’ to wear a helmet.
heads generally have more important squishy stuff in them than feet
Looks kind of fun, but not on an open road with traffic alongside you!
Kowabunga!
Ha! If they tried that here in Louisiana, a pothole would have gotten them early on!!
Of course, there are no hills like that in Louisiana, so they’d only have gone about 1 mile an hour anyway.
Last I am a failure..goes to get long board and ticket to Mt Everest..
Yay kiwis!
You should see some of the other stuff we come up with.
Seriously.
There is a hill here in Beaverton Oregon, Weir road, that would be perfect for these guys. it is a straight shot about 3/5 of a mile long with a 14% grade!!
Stopping at the bottom would be the hard part.
Pah, North Island. All the funding goes on the upkeep of Auckland/Wellington highways. Not so much here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7Xxm3JMNfs
I’ve been down this road, it’s bumpy as all hell and a huge tourist highway, although not many cars in this clip. Besides, South Island’s much better for extreme sports and other such fun
Only 70Kin that Mouth Island video? Weak as! Those blokes in this video were hitting over 100K.
Oh, and by the way, Auckland is finally seeing more of the 1/3 of the countries total petrol tax we pay to fund all those southern roads instead the usual 10% to 15%. It is amazing the rest of the country forgets just how much they have seen of Auckland tax dollars funding their roads. Imagine what would happen if it was a petrol tax is only spent in the region is comes from.
All I can say is I am jealous of the super smooth roads. Try that here and the cracks and holes would dump ‘ya before you get to speed.
Claremont is in southern California.
The city of Claremont, yes… but that’s Claremont Ave. in Berkeley, CA. The stretch they’re on is between Skyline Blvd and Ashby Ave, and le me say that those guys (UC students, by the look of the first scene) are absolutely insane.
My bad… Grizzly Peak, not Skyline…. Skyline is further south, in Oakland. Same elevation though, namely, high.
I was horrified when he passed the guy in a t-shirt early on thinking “If he comes off he’s going to be smeared along the tarmac”. Then passed a guy with no shoes on either. Just crazy.
HELLS YEAH NEW ZEALAND!!!! we making this shit go international!!!
New Zealand has a state funded no-fault accident scheme. So if these guys had come off they wouldn’t have to pay for the medical treatment. It covers anyone in NZ, regardless of citzenship.
You also can’t sue another party for costs or damages. That’s why you can kill yourself bungy jumping, rafting, sky-diving, etc. in NZ, as the operators don’t need expensive accident liability insurance.
However they can be, and indeed are, still taken to court on criminal charges if an investigation reveals negligence on the operators part.
yes but thats only by police really, too expensive to do it with private money
They’re Canadians, not Kiwis…they’re just IN New Zealand.
1) The majority of these guys are from Vancouver BC. Some guys from New Zealand were great to put on a trip to bring out some pro riders from British Columbia.
2)The rider with the camera was Andrew Chapman. While drafting the truck did allow him to pass everyone, it’s also important to note that he’s a top racer and has a very tight tuck.
3)The crazy fellow without the shoes is Striker. According to him, his weight makes it totally impractical to footbrake, therefore he doesn’t need shoes. And a helmet is always the first piece of safety equipment to be worn. Skin on feet grows back, grey matter does not.
4)You may think that rough roads stop us at high speed, it’s simply not the case! We have our fair share of rough roads in Canada. There’s even a race based on the concept of rough pavement!
Somehow, having a “tight tuck” doesn’t seem like something a man should be bragging about…
Oh, to be young and stupid again.
Hey now, you know people slip and fall on ice or in their bathtub or down their stairs , and they get killed , yet many never experienced the sensation of actually being alive, they took it all for granted and ” safety and security” consumed the main part of their thoughts. tsk tsk tis a shame. These boys here, well they know what being alive really feels like, more power to em’
The redneck’s last words: “Hey Bubba, watch this!”
The longboarder’s last words: “Yo Dude, watch this!”
I absolutely LOVE the blue suits! Those dudes shooting through the curves in the blue suits are epic.
I’d like to see them try that down Baldwin St…although Baldwin will be more fun in a wheelie bin
Hahaha! I actually have that Claremont video on my ipod!
Anyways, I’m willing to bet that the Claremont guys were going pretty close to how fast the guy with the helmet cam was. It’s alot to do with the prespective of the camera that makes it seem like he’s going alot faster. I myself have gone down some large hills on a longboard and if you stare at the pavement infront of you, it makes you feel like you’re going insanely fast, but if you’re not too scared to look away and watch a tree pass by or whatnot, you get the impression that you’re going alot slower. But yeah, drafting would def. be a good way to pick up speed quick… Assuming you don’t go slamming into the back of the car.
If you ever get the chance to ride a longboard, I suggest you try it, you won’t regret it. BHNC.
